Robin Summons is a screenwriter and director based in Melbourne, Australia. Robin’s short film SKEWWHIFF (2018) was nominated for the Clermont-Ferrand International Film Festival Grand Prix award, won ‘Best Film’ at the Northern Lights Film Festival and toured internationally amongst Australia’s best short films with the Australian International Screen Forum. 

Robin’s next film OCCUPATION (2020) featured extensively online on publications such as Filmink and Director’s Notes. His most short recent film, VICTIM (2022) starring Kat Stewart, had its world premiere at the Melbourne International Film Festival before winning the ‘Best Short Film’ award at the Brisbane International Film Festival, Sparrowland Film Festival and Peninsula Film Festival.

In 2022, Robin was selected for the MIFF Accelerator Lab, amongst Australia’s top screen directors making the transition from short to feature-length directing. The following year, Robin was nominated for ‘Best Direction In A Short Film’ at the Australian Directors’ Guild Awards. Robin was next selected for the 2024 Sydney Film Festival’s Platform Incubator Lab where he developed a surreal period melodrama about 19th-century anti-vaxers titled THE CURE. 

Robin is a passionate screenwriter and has written a slate of scripts. Recent feature screenplays have focussed on challenging and emotionally charged subjects such as grieving and guilt (MAMMALS), the motives of an arsonist (FUEL), as well as cults and climate change (CHANGE). His feature THE WAYWARD WIND is currently packaging with Selin Yaman (Sibel Pictures) and Michele Turnure-Salleo (Feracious Entertainment) producing. 

Robin is fascinated by the potential of cinema to generate empathy and is drawn to the medium for its characters, both on and off the screen.

Robin lives and tell stories on the land of the Wurundjeri & Woiwurrung people of the Kulin Nation. Sovereignty was never ceded.
